The Los Angeles Kings have decided to part ways with their head coach Jim Hiller. He has been replaced by D.J. Smith, who will take on the role of interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Player development coach Matt Greene will join Smith as an assistant coach.
– We want to thank Jim for his dedication and professionalism. He is a respected coach and person, and we are grateful for his work for the team, Kings vice president and GM Ken Holland stated in a statement.
– At this point in the season, we believe that new leadership gives the team the best chance to succeed and develop during the remainder of the season. The decision was not easy, but we want to ensure the team’s success now and in the future, Holland continued.
Finnish forwards Joel Armia and Samuel Helenius represent the Kings, who are currently three points away from the playoff line. The team has lost five of their last six games, but managed to win their most recent game against the Calgary Flames 2–0.
