Now it happened: Jussi Ahokas got a top position
Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas is taking the next step in his career in North America. The NHL team Colorado Avalanche’s farm team Colorado Eagles announced on Friday that they have appointed Ahokas as their new head coach.
Ahokas moves to this position after three successful seasons in the OHL. He coached the Kitchener Rangers to the Canadian junior leagues championship last season and solidified his status as one of Europe’s most respected young coaching names.
– Jussi has done an excellent job with every team and league he has been part of. We are excited to have him as part of the Avalanche and Eagles organization, Colorado Eagles GM Kevin McDonald said in the team’s announcement.
Ahokas was also in demand elsewhere. The Finnish coach was offered the head coach position with the Vancouver Canucks’ AHL farm team Abbotsford Canucks, but he decided to turn down the offer to take on the challenge presented by Colorado.
This position is a significant opportunity for Ahokas, as the Colorado Eagles belong to the Avalanche organization, which is known for its consistent success in the NHL. Strong performances in the AHL could open doors for the Finn in the NHL side in the future.
