Anaheim Ducks’ defenseman Radko Gudas received a five-game suspension for his kneeing incident against Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews. As a result of the hit, Matthews’ season is over.
Gudas has now served his suspension. He returned to action during the NHL night against the Vancouver Canucks.
Before the game, Gudas commented to the media about the hit situation for the first time.
– I really hate how it ended. The outcome feels terrible, Gudas said according to Sportsnet.
– I didn’t like the contact either. I have to learn from this. I need to be a better hockey player. I never want to hurt anyone on the ice. It’s really unfortunate.
Gudas says he reached out to Matthews regarding the incident.
– It was really, really hard to keep the conversation going. I just wanted to make sure he knew that it wasn’t my intention to hurt him.
Known for his tough play, Gudas last received a suspension in the NHL in 2019.
