The Lions are set to receive shocking reinforcements for the spring World Championships team traveling to Switzerland. Already on Wednesday, Florida Panthers superstar Aleksander Barkov’s girlfriend let slip in an interview that her partner will represent Finland on the World Championship ice.

Now, more joyful Finnish news is coming from the reigning NHL champion’s camp. Panthers head coach Paul Maurice reports that currently injured Anton Lundell wants to play in the World Championships.

However, according to Maurice, the team is not excited about Lundell’s intentions.

– We don’t want him to go to the tournament if his injury is bothering him a bit. We would like him to focus on training. If he went to the tournament, the training season would be pushed well into the summer, Maurice stated on the NHL’s official website.

The Ice Hockey World Championships will kick off on May 15. Lundell has already been training with his team, but he was not in the playing lineup for the regular season finale. So, there would be plenty of time for recovery before the World Championships.

The season of the Panthers, who have won the last two Stanley Cup championships, ended in the regular season on Thursday night. The team won their season finale against the Detroit Red Wings with a crushing score of 8-1.
