Nikita Kutsherov demands a huge salary in the NHL – “The amounts of money have gotten out of hand”
The ownership group of the Tampa Bay Lightning will have to dig deep into their pockets to keep their biggest star Nikita Kucherov with the team even after the upcoming NHL season.
The 33-year-old three-time NHL scoring champion, who has also won two Stanley Cups in Tampa, is reportedly demanding a significant increase to his current annual salary of $9.5 million, according to reporter Chris Johnston.
– It will be fascinating to see where the contract lands in Kucherov’s case, as I have heard talk of quite substantial figures regarding his asking price, Johnston reveals on his own show.
According to the insider reporter, Kucherov was seeking a contract extension that included a six-year term and an annual salary of $20 million.
– In the current situation, where amounts of money have spiraled out of control, it will be interesting to see how things end up, Johnston continues.
What makes Johnston’s claim complicated for Tampa Bay is the long term that the Russian winger is demanding for his next contract. If the information is accurate and the Lightning were to agree to their star’s demands, Kucherov would earn a salary of $20 million annually until he turns 40.
