NHL top draft pick Gavin McKenna is predicted to have a tough season

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ and the entire NHL’s summer’s number one draft pick Gavin McKenna is one of the most followed individual players as the NHL season kicks off in less than a month.

The young talent, compared to Macklin Celebrini, starts his career in the hockey mecca of Toronto, which guarantees ultimate media frenzy around the 18-year-old Canadian prospect.

However, not everyone believes that the young man’s rookie season point production will “break the bank.”

According to Frankie Corrado, host of TSN’s Overdrive podcast, McKenna will break the 50-point milestone at most during the upcoming season.

– I don’t believe he will break the 20-goal milestone, but I say he will be a 50-point guy. This would still be a good point total considering we don’t know how much and with whom he will be playing, Corrado predicts.

The host reminds that Toronto has made significant changes to its team since last season, which may take time to gel and at the same time limit the team’s chances of success.

Celebrini, compared to McKenna, also did not dominate in his rookie season in the NHL. The San Jose Sharks’ super teenager collected “only” 63 points in 70 games during his rookie season but rose to the ranks of the league’s superstars in his second season by scoring 45+70=115 points in the regular season.

Another player compared to McKenna is the Chicago Blackhawks’ Connor Bedard. Bedard, who has played three seasons in the NHL, has scored 61, 67, and 75 points in the regular season. However, the value of Bedard’s rookie season performance is elevated by the fact that he played only 68 games in the regular season.
