NHL top draft pick flopped in Kärpät: new team
Forward Noel Gunler, who played for Kärpät on a loan agreement during the 2023-24 season, is returning to his home country Sweden from North America. The 24-year-old winger has signed a two-year contract with Djurgården, which plays in the SHL.
Gunler is a second-round draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes from 2020. However, his career in North America did not yield a single game in the NHL over three seasons. In the AHL, the winger played 171 regular season games with the Chicago Wolves, recording 39+45=84 points.
– He is a skilled forward and a great addition to our team. He also has an excellent shot. We were fascinated by Noel’s journey in North America, where he has gradually developed his game, Djurgården’s sports director Marcus Due-Boje commented in a press release.
The Hurricanes loaned the forward to Kärpät for the 2023-24 season. However, Gunler’s performance in the Liiga was limited, as he collected 8 points in 24 games with 5+3=8.
