NHL team’s soap opera: Star players clashed – “Terrible work ethic”
Numerous soap opera-like claims have emerged from the inner circle of the Vancouver Canucks team over the past couple of seasons.
Last season, NHL fans were able to follow through the media the strained relationship between two star centers, Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller. The situation ultimately culminated in Miller being traded to the New York Rangers.
Now, journalist Patrick Johnston, who closely follows the Canucks, has dropped new claims regarding the relationship between Pettersson and the recently departed star defenseman Quinn Hughes. Johnston reports in an article for The Province that Hughes, who served as the Canucks’ captain before his trade, grew tired of Pettersson’s “poor work ethic,” especially concerning the summer training of the highly paid Swede.
According to the journalist, the relationship between the once-close duo cooled to the extent that Pettersson did not attend the farewell dinner organized by Hughes’ closest teammates after his trade to the Wild.
Johnston’s claim regarding Miller’s trade that occurred during last season adds more color to the soap opera. According to the journalist, Hughes was one of Pettersson’s defensemen during the Miller episode.
Johnston also claims that other Canucks players had been frustrated in previous years with the condition Pettersson arrived in for training camp after the summer. In light of recent rumors, Pettersson’s position in the deep-diving Canucks team seems to be once again somewhat more questionable.
