NHL team’s long-time defenseman is being shopped around – here are the interested teams
Calgary Flames GM Craig Conroy is shopping Swedish defenseman Rasmus Andersson. The Fourth Period reports that Conroy is engaging in numerous trade discussions with several teams involving Andersson.
The 28-year-old Andersson is entering the final year of his contract. His average annual earnings are $4.55 million. Flames and Andersson have been negotiating a contract extension, but they have not found common ground, prompting Conroy to actively market Andersson.
The Fourth Period reports that at least the Carolina Hurricanes and Columbus Blue Jackets are interested in Andersson. Despite numerous negotiations, Conroy does not intend to rush the trade of Andersson and may even wait until next season’s trade deadline if he does not receive a suitable offer for Andersson this summer.
Andersson was Flames’ 2nd round pick (#53) in the 2015 draft. He has represented the team throughout his NHL career, playing 536 regular-season games (47+184=231) and 27 playoff games (7+7=14).
Last season, Andersson recorded 31 points (11+20=31) in 81 games. In his best season (2021-22), he has scored 50 points.
