NHL superstars missing out on the Olympics – surprise name to take their place?
The United States team, which is among the favorites for the Olympic ice hockey tournament alongside Canada, may see a few real surprise selections.
According to insider information received by The Athletic, New York Rangers center Vincent Trocheck is close to securing a spot on the Olympic roster. In contrast, Dallas Stars star forward Jason Robertson and Montreal Canadiens skilled winger Cole Caufield are reportedly set to miss the tournament.
Trocheck, 32, was already part of the United States’ 4 Nations team last season. This season, the center has recorded 20 points with 8 goals and 12 assists in 25 games. Additionally, his versatility enhances his position. The veteran center can easily be placed in the lower lines and a more defensive role for the Americans.
Robertson, who scored 109 points in his best NHL season, is also having a great season in Dallas. The winger has accumulated 45 points with 23 goals and 22 assists in 38 games.
Caufield is currently on track for the most productive season of his career. The 24-year-old Canadiens star has scored 36 points with 18 goals and 18 assists in 37 games.
