NHL superstar faces a terrible setback: Olympic journey at risk!
Canada’s superstar Brayden Point, named for the Milano–Cortina Olympics, was injured in an NHL game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Monday.
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s top center twisted his right knee in a net-front situation during a battle with defenseman Cam York. The incident occurred immediately after Point’s hit, and he was unable to continue the game. The forward was assisted off the ice directly to the locker room.
Preliminary estimates suggest that Point will be sidelined for several weeks. However, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper emphasized that the injury was not of the worst kind.
– His season is not over, Cooper said to Sportsnet.
If Point is not able to recover in time for the Olympics, Canada has several options ready to replace him. The Athletic lists potential replacements as Connor Bedard, Sam Bennett, Wyatt Johnston, Mark Scheifele, Seth Jarvis, and Travis Konecny.
Point has played 36 NHL games this season, recording 11+19=30 points.
