Winnipeg Jets’ star goalie Connor Hellebuyck may be of interest to the San Jose Sharks. Sportsnet’s insider reporter Elliotte Friedman believes that the teams have explored the conditions for a potential trade.

Friedman discussed Hellebuyck’s situation on the Sportsnet FAN Hockey Show.

– I believe the teams have looked into it, but I don’t know which one initiated it. As I go through the league and think about which team would fit, San Jose is very high on my list.

According to Friedman, a potential move would depend on both the trade materializing and Hellebuyck’s assessment of the Sharks’ chances of winning.

– However, the challenge, as I’ve heard, is first of all whether the trade can be made. Secondly, I believe Hellebuyck sees his chances of winning extending into the next two or three years. That’s when he would be at his best, and that’s what he looks at. That’s why he, for example, put Buffalo on his list.

Friedman also shared how he would view San Jose’s chances himself.

– In San Jose’s case, I think the question is whether he believes the team can win in that time frame. With Hellebuyck, it would be much closer. If I were him, I would explore my options there. I still understand that this was one of those things they were considering.

Hellebuyck has also been previously linked to the Buffalo Sabres, led by Jarmo Kekäläinen. According to insider reports, Buffalo was close to acquiring him before the first round of the NHL draft, but the trade did not materialize.
