NHL star forward: out of the World Championships
The Canadian team had to make a last-minute change to its offense when star forward Mathew Barzal withdrew from the World Championship due to injury. This is a previously sustained minor injury that they do not want to risk worsening before next season.
Barzal had already prepared for his third World Championship in his career. He has been an effective player for Canada in previous tournaments, with a total of 15 points in 19 World Championship games.
This past NHL season also went exceptionally well for the New York Islanders’ star forward. He recorded 72 points in the regular season.
Although Barzal’s absence significantly weakens Canada’s offensive lineup, the team received a top-notch reinforcement on Tuesday when Sidney Crosby joined the World Championship roster.
