NHL star darkened: piggish revenge trick – suspension threatens?
In the NHL game last night between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the New York Islanders, there was a highly talked-about incident when Islanders star forward Mathew Barzal brutally retaliated against Mason Marchment.
The situation began in the neutral zone, where Marchment tripped the Islanders’ 18-year-old top prospect Matthew Schaefer. Moments later, Barzal skated over and struck the Canadian hard in the leg with his stick.
Barzal received a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct, while Marchment was given a two-minute penalty. Barzal will likely face further disciplinary action from the NHL regarding the incident.
After the game, Islanders head coach Patrick Roy came to his player’s defense.
– We never blame a teammate for trying to defend his own teammate, the outspoken coach said to MSG Network.
In the game itself, Columbus was stronger and won with a score of 4–2.
