Last night in the NHL, an exceptionally brutal injury was witnessed. Boston Bruins star defenseman Charlie McAvoy was injured after taking a slap shot to the mouth in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
The injury occurred in the second period. Montreal was on a power play and Noah Dobson slapped the puck directly from a pass at the blue line. Unfortunately, the shot deflected off a Boston player’s leg and hit McAvoy directly in the face.
Immediately after the puck hit, at least one tooth fell out of McAvoy’s mouth and he started bleeding. A significant amount of blood also flowed onto the ice later as McAvoy was assisted on the rink.
The game ultimately ended with Boston winning 3-2.
