NHL: full circus on: goalies fought in front of 60,000 spectators
The Tampa Bay Lightning and Boston Bruins faced off last night in an outdoor game. The teams met in Florida at the home stadium of the NFL team Tampa Bay Buccaneers in front of over 60,000 spectators. The audience got entertainment worth their money.
The match featured a rare fight between the goalies. It all started when Boston’s goalie Jeremy Swayman got annoyed when Branden Hagel hit him with his stick. Swayman went after the forward and landed several solid punches.
Tampa Bay’s goalie Andrei Vasilevski reacted immediately. He rushed from his own end to confront Swayman, and the goalies met in the center circle. Both goalies landed punches, but the fight ended quickly when Vasilevski managed to knock Swayman off balance.
However, the fight was just a small part of the game’s fast-paced script. The first half of the game was dominated by Boston, and the team marched to a 5-1 lead. Tampa Bay regrouped in the second half and managed to come back to a 5-5 tie in front of their home crowd.
The game’s resolution ultimately went to a shootout. The only successful shooter in the contest was Jake Guentzel, and thus Tampa Bay won the game 6-5.
