NHL expert’s strong words about Stuart Skinner: “If they believed in their goalkeeper…”
The Edmonton Oilers’ season in the NHL has started off sluggishly. Expectations for the team were high after two consecutive finals appearances, but at the moment, the Oilers are not even in a playoff spot.
One issue is goaltender Stuart Skinner. Last night, he allowed four goals on two shots in the first period against the Dallas Stars.
TSN’s expert Martin Biron defended Skinner, but at the same time expressed his opinion on the goaltender’s stark situation.
– Stuart Skinner is not the problem right now. He is 33rd in saves above expectation and is just okay, average. But the locker room has lost faith that Stuart Skinner can be the solution. When you look at how the Oilers have played in front of Skinner this season and how many scoring chances they give up.
– If they believed in their goaltender, they would be fiercely going after loose pucks and diving in front of shots. I feel like they have lost faith in Skinner and the team’s goaltending.
Skinner has played 18 NHL games this season with a save percentage of 87.8.
