NHL: big Russia stance!
NHL’s deputy commissioner Bill Daly commented on Wednesday about Russia’s possible participation in the 2028 World Cup.
Daly told Sportsnet reporter Eric Engels that the NHL has not received official notifications from countries that would skip the tournament due to Russia, but the league’s leadership is closely monitoring the stance of European hockey nations.
Finland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic have strongly opposed Russia’s participation as long as the war in Ukraine continues.
– I don’t believe we are on different pages than the Finns, Swedes, and Czechs regarding Russia’s participation. It is possible if certain things happen. And if they do not happen, Russia is unlikely to participate, Daly stated.
The decisive factor is the end of the war, and in the current situation, Russia’s participation seems unlikely.
The 2028 World Cup of Hockey will be held in Edmonton, Calgary, and Prague. The final participating countries will be announced later.
