NHL: A wild goalie fight – Sergei Bobrovsky threw his fists!
In last night’s NHL game between the Florida Panthers and the San Jose Sharks, a rare situation occurred in the third period when the teams’ goalies ended up fighting each other.
It all started after a whistle in the Sharks’ zone, about six minutes into the third period. A scuffle broke out between players, which Sharks goalie Alex Nedeljkovic intervened in. He hit Florida forward Evan Rodrigues.
The situation caused Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky to heat up. The Russian star skated quickly from the other end to his counterpart. Soon both removed their gloves and began to fight in the middle of the rink, which is very unusual in the NHL.
The crowd in the stands got excited and showed their appreciation for both goalies.
The referees handed both Bobrovsky and Nedeljkovic five-minute penalties for the fight.
The game ended with a 4–1 victory for the San Jose Sharks. Florida’s only goal was scored by Finnish player Eetu Luostarinen.
