Narrow text: Finnish NHL defenseman wants a transfer to another team – “To be honest…”
Ville Heinola, who has started his fifth full season in North America, received disappointing news from the coaching staff as the new season began, with the Winnipeg Jets sending the defenseman to the AHL.
The 24-year-old, who passed through waivers, has now given a rare candid interview about his situation in the organization to the local Illegal Curve site.
– It (being put on waivers) wasn’t fun. To be honest, I was hoping that some team would pick me up off waivers, Heinola admits candidly.
– The only thing I can do is try my best and play well. Hopefully something will happen, the defenseman states.
During his years spent in North America, Heinola has only played 53 NHL games (1+11). In the AHL, the skilled defenseman has played 156 regular season games with a total of 23+81=104 points.
