Montreal’s hopes for Sidney Crosby have vanished into thin air – eyes now on this star center
The Montreal Canadiens have been looking for a center reinforcement from the trade market for a while now. For a long time, the rumor mill was centered around hockey legend Sidney Crosby, who was speculated to be leaving for Montreal in search of success that was unavailable in Pittsburgh Penguins. However, the Penguins have started their season so strongly that Crosby has no need to leave.
According to NHL reporter Elliotte Friedman, Montreal is now interested in another star-level center, Nazem Kadri of the Calgary Flames.
– There’s no doubt that Kadri’s name is now the name circulating in discussions. For a while, it was Sid. However, Pittsburgh’s good success has put those talks to rest, Friedman commented on the Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast.
Kadri would be a high-level reinforcement for Montreal’s second line. Last season, the fiery center scored 67 points (35+32) in 82 games. Calgary might also have an interest in parting with Kadri, as the team has no realistic chances of success, and it might make more sense for management to start building for the future rather than holding on to the current core.
So far, Kadri’s most memorable season was 2021-22. He scored 87 points in 71 regular-season games with the Colorado Avalanche. In the playoffs, he scored 15 points in 16 games and celebrated a championship at the end of the season.
