MM gold medalist signed a lucrative contract extension in the NHL
Boston Bruins has secured World Championship gold medalist Henri Jokiharju, 26, with a lucrative contract extension.
The new deal for the Finnish defenseman, who was traded from the Buffalo Sabres to the Bruins at the NHL’s winter trade deadline, spans three years and guarantees the former first-round pick an annual salary of three million dollars. The total value of the contract is nine million dollars.
Jokiharju, who has played 407 NHL games in his career, has represented the Sabres and Bruins in addition to the Chicago Blackhawks on the NHL ice. Last season, the second-generation Finnish hockey player played a total of 60 NHL games for the Sabres and Bruins, recording 3+7=10 points.
Jokiharju, who has won gold in World Championships in the adult, under-20, and under-18 categories during his career, signed the contract extension just a day before the start of NHL free agency. Forward John Beecher (1×900,000 dollars) and goaltender Michael DiPietro (2×812,500 dollars) also received contract extensions at the same time.
