Mikko Rantanen commented on Antti Pennanen – tells IL: this is how the Lions coach succeeded

The head coach of the Lions Antti Pennanen faced criticism from the media, especially during last year’s national team tournaments. NHL superstar Mikko Rantanen, who was Finland’s top forward at the Milan Olympics, has now given his assessment of the national team coach’s performance.

Rantanen’s statement includes some criticism regarding the 4 Nations tournament played last year. In contrast, according to the Dallas Stars star forward, the Olympic tournament went better – also from the coaching perspective.

– I think the Olympics were a pretty good overall experience. The players and coaches improved from the 4 Nations tournament, everyone took steps forward, and that’s why the play was better, Rantanen assessed to Iltalehti.

For the Olympics, the Lions also gained additional strength in coaching. Ville Peltonen joined Pennanen, and the management team was strengthened by Jarmo Kekäläinen. Rantanen was pleased with the decision.

– “Pendo” did well in the Olympics, and his support team also performed well. It was nice to play under them, Rantanen praised.

Rantanen’s first Olympic tournament left him with warm memories overall.

– The Olympics were an amazing experience both on and off the ice. I got to play meaningful games with the Finnish guys. The athlete village also left an impression, Rantanen listed.

Unfortunately, Rantanen’s tournament ended with an injury in the semifinals, which kept him out of NHL games until the end of March.
