The Dallas Stars are seeking a new boost for the upcoming season with the hiring of a new head coach, Glen Gulutzan, who served as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers for a long time this summer.

Gulutzan, who has been part of the Oilers’ coaching staff for seven seasons, plans to bring influences from his former team’s playing style to the Stars.

– I plan to ask our top players to use their skills and intelligence more in forechecking. I don’t mean big hits, but rather aggressive forechecking and increasing physicality in every shift. That is an area for development for this group, Gulutzan tells Dallas Magazine.

– This same change was made in the Oilers because Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl wanted it, and it caught on with everyone else. When I look at our team (in Dallas), I want to bring more energy to this aspect, the coach states.

For the Stars, increasing aggression could have a transformative effect as they aim for a spot in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Stars’ season has ended in the Western Conference Finals against the Oilers in the last two seasons.
