Mestis team recruited a forward familiar from Liiga for a trial: “Experienced, very smart player”
The Mestis club Kiekko-Vantaa announces that it has made a try-out contract with forward Joel Janatuinen. The trial period lasts until the end of August. Janatuinen has been training with the team in recent weeks.
Janatuinen, 30, has played 169 regular season games (30+28=58) and 14 playoff games (0+1) in the Liiga, representing TPS and HPK. He was part of TPS’s silver medal team in the spring of 2021.
Janatuinen’s recent years have been plagued by injuries, and his number of games played has been low. Last season, he played only seven games in the top league in Great Britain with the Sheffield Steelers, recording 0+1 points.
– Jana is now with us on a trial basis in August, and we will reassess the situation at the end of the month. An experienced, very smart player, Kiekko-Vantaa’s head coach Jani Manninen commented in the club’s announcement.
In his career, Janatuinen has also played in North America for five seasons, including one in the junior league USHL and four in the NCAA, winning the league championship once.
