Major loss: Dallas Stars star’s season over
Dallas Stars’ Tyler Seguin will not return to the rink this season – not even for the playoffs.
Several insider sources report that the Stars plan to move Seguin to the long-term injured reserve (LTIR) list. This move allows the team to create salary cap space for potential reinforcements as the trade deadline approaches.
Anterior cruciate ligament torn
The 34-year-old Seguin injured his knee’s anterior cruciate ligament at the beginning of December and has not played since. The Stars had already announced earlier that a return during the regular season was not expected, and it is now confirmed that he will also miss the crucial games in the spring.
Seguin earns a hefty $9.85 million per season, so the LTIR move gives Dallas significant financial flexibility in the trade market.
Before his injury, the center managed to play 27 games with a score of 7+10=17.
This marks Seguin’s second shortened season in a row. Last season, he played only 20 games in the regular season (9+12=21), but returned for the playoffs and recorded 8 points (4+4=8) in 18 games.
