Leijonille taas uusi NHL-vahvistus – Olli Määttä lähtee MM-kisoihin!
The team heading to the World Championships is once again strengthened by a new NHL name, as the Finnish Ice Hockey Association announced that Olli Määttä will join the Swiss World Championship tournament.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion joins the team before the tournament, as he will participate in the EHT tournament in Sweden a week before the World Championships begin.
– Määttä brings valuable experience and confidence to the defense, GM Jere Lehtinen commented on Määttä’s addition to the team in the Ice Hockey Association’s announcement.
The defender, who moved to the Calgary Flames mid-season, had a strong finish to the season after leaving the Utah Mammoth. In Calgary, he recorded 21 games with stats of 2+12=14.
Määttä is now heading to his fourth World Championships. In the Lion jersey, he has previously won two Olympic bronze medals (2014 and 2026) as well as World Championship silver in 2021.
The Lions are set to have a strong roster for the Swiss World Championships. NHL players Aleksander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Urho Vaakanainen, Ville Heinola, and Justus Annunen have already registered to join.
The World Championships will kick off in Switzerland on May 15.
