The Finnish Ice Hockey Association announces that defender Santtu Kinnunen will have to miss next week’s Euro Hockey Tour tournament in Switzerland due to injury.
In Kinnunen’s place, who has performed excellently in Switzerland, defender Eemil Viro from Malmö Redhawks has been called up, marking his first call-up to the national team.
The 23-year-old Viro has played 26 games in the SHL this season, scoring 2+6=8 points. The defender has spent the last three seasons with the Detroit Red Wings’ AHL team.
The Lions’ EHT tournament kicks off on Thursday with a match against the Czech Republic starting at 19:30. Finland will face Sweden on Saturday and Switzerland on Sunday.
