The Lions secured victory in the Sweden EHT tournament by defeating the Czech Republic in Saturday’s day match with a score of 3–2.

The win came even without the team’s brightest NHL stars, as Aleksander Barkov, Anton Lundell, Olli Määttä, and Justus Annunen were absent due to rest.

The Lions got off to a flying start in the match. Already scoring in the opening game of the tournament against Switzerland, Vili Saarijärvi put Finland ahead in the fifth minute of the first period. Aku Räty extended the lead to 2–0.

However, the Czech Republic came back in the second period with two quick goals. Dominik Kubalik narrowed the gap with a power play goal, and moments later David Tomasek equalized the score at 2–2.

The solution was seen in the final period. Mikko Lehtonen scored the winning goal for Finland on a power play just over five minutes before the end.

The Lions’ tournament concludes on Sunday when they face Sweden. The match starts at 5 PM.
