Leevi Meriläinen changes teams in the NHL
Leevi Meriläinen is changing teams in the NHL. The Ottawa Senators placed the Finnish goaltender on the trade list on Thursday, from which the Vancouver Canucks picked up the 24-year-old goalie on Friday.
Last season was difficult for the Finnish goalie. Meriläinen, who was expected to be the Senators’ backup goaltender, played 20 games in the NHL with a save percentage of 86.0. His goals against average was 3.51.
Meriläinen’s current contract covers the upcoming season. He earns 1.1 million dollars from his current contract.
In Vancouver, Meriläinen will have a familiar Finnish name as a teammate. Kevin Lankinen continues on the Canucks’ goaltending roster, marking his third season with the Canadian team.
