Winnipeg Jets’ goaltender Connor Hellebuyck’s exceptional protest has become costly. The star goalie, who has been absent from training camp and team activities, is essentially on an unpaid strike.

Hellebuyck’s absence has now lasted 17 days. Although it has only been just over two weeks, the lost earnings have become significant.

The goaltender has so far missed out on approximately $636,800 in income. Each new day of the strike increases that amount by $38,660.

The dispute stems from Hellebuyck’s trade request, which the Jets have not agreed to. His current contract runs through the summer of 2031 and guarantees an annual income of $8.5 million.

With Hellebuyck sidelined, Stuart Skinner has taken on the goaltending responsibilities for Winnipeg. He has appeared in four games this season and has stopped pucks with a 91.7 percent save rate.
