Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin seems to be closer than ever to a trade in the NHL. The star center, who has requested a trade from the Red Wings, has expanded the list of teams he would be willing to join.

According to insider reporter Helene St. James, who closely follows the Red Wings, Larkin has added the Anaheim Ducks, New York Islanders, and Tampa Bay Lightning to his list of approved destinations. Previously, the American was only willing to move to the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, or Vegas Golden Knights.

Larkin’s decision significantly eases the work of Detroit’s GM Steve Yzerman. The more teams involved in negotiations, the better chances the Red Wings have of getting a return close to what they desire for their star player.

St. James estimates that among the new trio, Anaheim could be the easiest trading partner for Detroit. The Ducks have plenty of young players, top prospects, and draft picks with which the team could build a competitive offer.

The Hockey Writers has already outlined a potential blockbuster trade between the teams. According to the site, the Ducks’ trade package could include young power forward Mason McTavish, one of two young defensemen Eric Nilsson or Lasse Boelius, as well as a first-round draft pick.

The saga surrounding Larkin has become the most interesting trade discussion in the NHL this early summer. The American, who has played 11 seasons as Detroit’s top center, is frustrated with the team’s years of unsuccessful performance and finally wants a realistic chance to compete for the Stanley Cup.

From Yzerman’s perspective, the main goal is now clear: if Larkin is indeed traded, the expectation is likely to receive either a new top-tier center or the necessary pieces to acquire one.
