KooKoo strengthens its goaltending department with an interesting Finnish name. The league’s silver team announced on Wednesday that it has signed a 1+1 year contract with Jasper Patrikainen.

The 25-year-old Patrikainen arrives in Kouvola from the Slovak league, where he celebrated winning the championship with HK Nitra last season.

A product of Pelicans, he was among the best goaltenders in the Slovak league. Patrikainen played 30 regular-season games with impressive statistics: a goals-against average of 2.02 and a save percentage of 93.0. He also recorded six shutouts.

KooKoo’s sports director Antti Tuomenoksa believes the new acquisition will bring healthy competition to the goaltending department.

– Jasper is just the right mix of experience and still developing as a goaltender, who was among the best in the Slovak league during the championship-winning season of 2025–2026. We believe that Patrikainen and Eetu Randelin will form a highly competitive and winning goaltending duo in the league, Tuomenoksa commented in the club’s press release.

KooKoo’s goaltending coach and team manager Jarkko Rissanen revealed that the club has been keeping an eye on Patrikainen for some time.

– “Jasse” was a very sought-after goaltender for us, and when the opportunity to acquire him arose, the decision was ultimately easy. He is technically very skilled, but at the same time, he also has the grit and competitiveness required to win, Rissanen praised.

Patrikainen has played 102 regular season games and four playoff games in the league, all with Pelicans.
