Konsta Helenius dazzled again – Buffalo extended the series to a Game 7 in the NHL!
The Montreal Canadiens had the opportunity to advance to the NHL conference finals in their home arena. However, they failed to do so, as the Buffalo Sabres crushed them with a score of 8-3, tying the series at 3-3.
Montreal took a 3-1 lead in the match within the first ten minutes. At this point, Buffalo changed goalies, as Alex Lyon left the ice and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen stepped in. Luukkonen, who played about 50 minutes in the game, ultimately kept his net clean, stopping 18 shots.
Buffalo eventually surged to a clear victory. Konsta Helenius, who jumped into the lineup during the playoffs, scored Buffalo’s fifth goal. He played his third playoff game and succeeded in scoring in his second consecutive match.
Among the most effective players on the Buffalo team were Rasmus Dahlin, who recorded 1+4 points, and Tage Thompson, who finished with 1+3 points.
Although Luukkonen had a strong game, Buffalo’s goaltending situation has fluctuated dramatically throughout the series. Lyon played the first three games of the series, after which Luukkonen secured a win in game four. In game five, Luukkonen was instead pulled, and Lyon returned to the net. In game six, it was Lyon’s turn to leave the rink early.
Montreal also changed goalies during the game. Jakub Dobes left the net after Buffalo’s sixth goal. Jacob Fowler played his first minutes of his playoff career in the final period.
The seventh game between Buffalo and Montreal is set to take place in the early hours of Tuesday, Finnish time.
