Kiekko-Espoo signed a goalie as well as the captain of the youth World Championship gold team.
Kiekko-Espoo continued its contract announcements for next season’s Liiga team on Friday, as the club reported two new contracts.
Defender Kristian Näkyvä, 35, who scored an impressive 14 goals last season, continues in Espoo with a two-year contract. Forward Aarne Talvitie, 27, who has struggled with injuries, will remain with the club on a one-year contract.
Näkyvä broke Kiekko-Espoo’s single-season goal record for defenders last season. The defender, who returned to the Liiga after 11 seasons, recorded 14 goals and 18 assists for a total of 32 points in 60 regular-season games. In five playoff games, he registered 1 goal and 5 assists for a total of 6 points.
The season was more challenging for Talvitie, who captained the Under-20 national team to gold at the World Championships in 2019. The forward played only 13 regular-season games, recording 3 goals and 2 assists for a total of 5 points. Talvitie joined Espoo this season from TPS.
Kiekko-Espoo’s recent contract announcements have been rapid. The club has announced this week the arrivals of Jere Sallinen, Jani Lajunen, Ville Lajunen, Mathias From, Connor Corcoran, and Kasper Kotkansalo. Gold helmet holder Iikka Kangasniemi will also continue his career in Espoo.
