Oulu Kärpät has signed a two-year contract with center Andreas Okany.

The 24-year-old Okany has gone through KalPa’s junior pathway all the way to the senior team. The spring 2025 SM gold medalist has steadily taken on a bigger role in KalPa. In the recently concluded season, he played 48 regular season games with stats of 12+10=22. In the playoffs, he continued in an important role and was his team’s most effective player.

Kärpät’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen sees the acquisition bringing versatility and work capacity to the team.

– Andreas has impressed us primarily with his work ethic, courage, and versatility. He plays physically, eagerly engages in situations, and can win battles both in the offensive and defensive zones. Additionally, he can play as a center or on the wing, which gives the coaching staff options for lineups and roles, Kapanen states in a press release.

Okany is already a familiar player to Kärpät’s head coach Petri Karjalainen from several years. Karjalainen has coached him in both the U20 SM league and in the Liiga.

– Andy is a true team player who plays winning hockey and leaves everything on the ice night after night. He is a highly respected and valued player in the team. His actions and play speak for themselves. Andy is a strong forward who is ready to take the next step in his career and be an important part of a winning team, Karjalainen commented.
