Kärpät made a strong transfer move – experienced national team forward caught
Oulu Kärpät has signed a one-year contract with Swedish forward Henrik Törnqvist. The 29-year-old Törnqvist is moving to Oulu from the German DEL league, playing for Iserlohn Roosters.
Törnqvist has a long background in Sweden’s SHL, where he has played in the Linköping HC organization as well as for Karlskrona HK and Timrå IK. He has accumulated nearly 500 regular season games worth of SHL experience. He also has experience in the Swedish national team circles.
Törnqvist says he is excited about moving to the Liiga and believes his playing style fits well in Finland.
– When I have watched this league, it feels like my playing style fits here quite well. I enjoy intense hockey. I consider it to be the best part of my game. I work hard at both ends, offensively and defensively. I have a good shot and good hockey sense. I believe I will bring a lot of added value to the team, Törnqvist says in the club’s announcement.
Kärpät’s sports director Kimmo Kapanen describes the new acquisition as an experienced and versatile player.
– Henrik is an experienced, very skating two-way player. He can play in all roles and provides us with a good addition also at the center forward position, Kapanen comments.
