Kaapo Kakko hit the jackpot: the most lucrative NHL contract of his career
Kaapo Kakko has signed a three-year extension with NHL team Seattle Kraken.
Kakko’s new contract has a total value of 13.6 million dollars and guarantees the Turku winger an annual income of 4.5 million dollars.
– The contract with Kaapo was the top priority of the summer, commented Kraken’s GM Jason Botterill.
– We knew right away that he would become an important part of our team. He is big, skilled, and a great playmaker who is not afraid to go to the front of the net. He adapted to our team immediately, and we are happy to have secured him, the team executive continues.
Kakko, who earned 2.4 million dollars last season, was traded from the New York Rangers to the Kraken during last season. The Finn quickly became one of his new team’s top players, scoring 30 points with 10 goals and 20 assists in 49 games.
Kakko’s new contract was already set to be resolved by an impartial arbitrator. The arbitration was scheduled for July 25.
