Finnish coach Jussi Ahokas‘ name is still in the spotlight in the NHL coaching market. According to insider reporter Rick Dhaliwal, the Vancouver Canucks are considering hiring Ahokas for next season’s coaching staff.
– Jussi Ahokas, who led the Kitchener Rangers to a Memorial Cup victory, is on the radar, Dhaliwal reveals regarding the Canucks’ coaching recruitment.
Starting next fall as the head coach of Vancouver is Manny Malhotra, who has been leading the team’s AHL farm team, the Abbotsford Canucks, for the past two seasons.
A hockey influencer closely following the Canucks, Taj, believes that the team is not looking for a high-profile NHL veteran for their coaching staff this time. This would further improve Ahokas’ chances.
– I don’t believe they will hire any experienced NHL coach for the coaching staff, Taj commented on Dhaliwal’s update published on the messaging service X.
Ahokas has coached the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL junior league for the last two seasons and led the team to the Memorial Cup championship in the recently concluded season.
The 45-year-old Finnish coach recently told MTV Sports that he is looking for his next coaching position in both the NHL and AHL.
