The coach who led the Kitchener Rangers to the junior league championship in Canada, Jussi Ahokas, is currently hot property in the North American coaching market.

Ahokas visited the broadcast of The Leaf Nation on Tuesday, where he was asked about the local Toronto Maple Leafs’ interest in him.

– There has been no contact, Ahokas replied to the question about possible Toronto contacts.

The Finnish coach is aware that the journey to the NHL will likely go through one more intermediate step.

– Maybe an AHL head coach or assistant coach at first. One step at a time. I’m in no hurry, but I think the path will be something like that, Ahokas predicted.

Ahokas’s own coaching philosophy is player-centered.

– Players always know what they are doing. They play for each other and provide support to each other in offense and defense. I’m good at leading and getting players behind my thoughts, Ahokas explained his coaching style.
