Jussi Ahokas, who coached the Kitchener Rangers to the championship in the Canadian junior leagues, is currently hot property in the North American coaching market.

Ahokas visited The Leaf Nation broadcast on Tuesday, where he was asked about the local Toronto Maple Leafs’ interest in him.

– There has been no contact, Ahokas replied to the question about possible Toronto connections.

The Finnish coach is aware that the journey to the NHL will likely go through one more intermediate step.

– Maybe an AHL head coach or an NHL assistant coach at first. One step at a time. I’m not in a hurry, but I think the path will be something like that, Ahokas anticipated.

Ahokas’s coaching philosophy is player-centered.

– Players always know what they are doing. They play for each other and provide support to one another in offense and defense. I am good at leading and getting players behind my thoughts, Ahokas explained his coaching style.
