The ex-star of the Jokers confirms: "I'm quitting now"

The KHL roster of Jokerit for the 2014-15 season, scoring points Linus Omark, 39, is retiring. The Swedish forward confirmed the news after the season in Luleå ended on Wednesday, with Skellefteå securing their fourth victory in the semifinal series with a score of 2-1.

Omark, who also played in the NHL for three seasons, returned to his youth club Luleå for his final season, where he was seen multiple times throughout his career.

– I am retiring now. This time the decision is final, Omark confirmed to Expressen on Wednesday evening after the club’s season ended.

Omark was already close to achieving a perfect ending to his career last spring when he was part of the team that won the Swedish championship for Luleå. However, the decision to retire was overshadowed by a call from another former Jokerit star.

– Brian O’Neill and the other guys from the team called and changed my mind. It felt good to come back and try to win one more time. This time it didn’t work out. But I am still happy that I got to return and end my career on my own terms, Omark stated.

– I have never cared about a perfect ending. The most important thing is that I get to play until the end on my own terms. I have been able to play until 39 years old without any issues. I am incredibly satisfied with the journey I have had as a hockey player, Omark reflected.

During the season he spent with Jokerit, Omark played 60 games, scoring 16+30=46 points. In the recently concluded season, the veteran played 29 games in the SHL regular season with stats of 5+11=16. In the playoffs, the Swede played 14 games with a total of 1+7=8 points.

The end of the season for Luleå also meant the end of the season for Markus Nurmi, Anton Levtchin, Oskari Laaksonen, Eetu Koivistoinen, Otto Leskinen, and Heikki Liedeksen, at least at the club level.
