Jevgeni Malkin, 39, hit the jackpot – extension contract revealed!
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Evgeni Malkin continue their joint journey that has lasted over 20 years for at least another season. The Penguins announced on Tuesday that they have signed a new one-year contract with the team legend.
The value of the fresh deal for the Russian center, who will turn 40 this summer, is $5.5 million plus potential bonuses.
Malkin will begin his incredible 21st season in a Penguins jersey this fall. Despite his age, the forward remains one of the key players on his team. The veteran recorded 61 points in 56 regular season games this past NHL season, with 19 goals and 42 assists. In the playoffs, the veteran logged 2 goals and 1 assist in six games.
The new contract also means a slight pay cut for the Russian star. Malkin earned $6.1 million in the recently concluded season.
However, Malkin doesn’t have to stress much about money. According to PuckPedia, the forward has already earned nearly $147 million in salary during his NHL career.
The three-time Stanley Cup champion is one of the greatest legends in Penguins history. Malkin has played 1,269 regular season games in the NHL and has scored an impressive 1,407 points.
In the playoffs, the Russian talent has scored the same number of points in 183 games.
