The Carolina Hurricanes were ready to trade Jesperi Kotkaniemi elsewhere just a week ago in the NHL.

This is claimed by Daily Faceoff Rundown podcast David Pagnotta, who states that the Hurricanes offered the Finn to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Phillip Danault. However, Danault was traded back to the Montreal Canadiens last Saturday.

– They had an offer on the table for Danault. I don’t know what it was in its entirety, but it included Jesperi Kotkaniemi. The Kings were not fond of the length of Kotkaniemi’s contract, as there are still four years remaining after this season, Pagnotta reports.

– The size of the contract ($4.82 million per season) was not an issue for the Kings per se, but they still decided to go in a different direction, Pagnotta adds.

Currently injured, Kotkaniemi, 25, has played 19 games in the ongoing NHL season with stats of 2+4=6.
