Jättipommi: Norway won World Championship bronze – humiliation for Canada’s NHL stars
Norway captured its first-ever men’s championship medal by defeating Canada in the bronze match of the ice hockey World Championships with a score of 3–2 after overtime.
The match was full of dramatic twists. Norway led 2–0 after two periods with goals from Emilio Pettersen and Stian Solberg, but Canada made a fierce comeback in the final period.
Canada’s rally was initiated by Robert Thomas, who narrowed the score in the last minute of the game. Moments later, he struck again and equalized just seven seconds before the final buzzer, forcing the game into overtime.
In extra time, however, Norway seized its opportunity. The winning goal was scored by Noah Steen, who decided the match after a quick 2–1 attack.
Norway’s goalkeeper Henrik Haukeland played an outstanding match and made as many as 44 saves.
