Jarmo Kekäläinen has been working as assistant GM for the Buffalo Sabres for only a few months, and Marc Bergevin is a candidate for the general manager position of another NHL team.

According to insider reporter Elliotte Friedman, Bergevin is one of the candidates for the new GM of the Nashville Predators. The current GM, Barry Trotz, announced earlier in the season that he would step down from the role after this season.

Bergevin is an experienced NHL executive. The 60-year-old French Canadian served as the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens from 2012 to 2021. After that, he worked as an assistant to Rob Blake with the Los Angeles Kings from late 2021 until last December, when Kekäläinen lured him to Buffalo.

Bergevin is certainly not the only name being interviewed for the Predators’ GM position.

According to Friedman, at least Florida Panthers assistant GM Brett Peterson is on the Predators’ candidate list. The 44-year-old Peterson has been working in Florida as Bill Zito‘s right-hand man since 2021.
