Jarmo Kekäläinen was not surprised by Konsta Helenius’s World Championship winning goal: “The boy is not dizzy”
The winning goal by Buffalo Sabres’ young superstar Konsta Helenius in the ice hockey World Championship final against Switzerland brought the 20-year-old forward into the spotlight of the entire Finnish nation.
Sabres’ general manager Jarmo Kekäläinen was not surprised by his compatriot’s decisive goal in the World Championship final. NHL legend Kimmo Timonen reveals the message he received from Kekäläinen after Helenius’s championship goal.
– I sent a message to Kekäläinen. He just said, “not surprising at all, the boy isn’t fazed by anything,” Timonen reveals on the Kimanttia podcast.
Antti Mäkinen, who co-hosts the podcast with Timonen and commented on the Lions’ games for Viaplay during the World Championships, shares Kekäläinen’s views.
– In every positive way, he is delightfully quirky. A smart, funny young guy, responsible. On top of the nation after that goal, but he knows how to handle it. He approaches things the right way. A good role model, Mäkinen lists.
– It will be a joy to follow him in the coming years. As Jarmo said, he isn’t fazed, Mäkinen continues, referring to Helenius’s upcoming NHL career.
Helenius scored in every playoff game of the Lions in the World Championships. In total, the forward collected 3+3=6 points in six World Championship games.
