Jarmo Kekäläinen acquired two defensemen for the Buffalo Sabres in one player trade. Arriving from the Pittsburgh Penguins are Caleb Jones and Daniel Laatsch, in exchange for which Buffalo gave up Ryan Johnson.

The timing of the trade was spot on, as the Sabres lost their captain Rasmus Dahlin to injury against the Florida Panthers before the trade was announced.

Jones brings 255 NHL games of experience to Buffalo’s defense. The 29-year-old defenseman has recorded 14+42=56 points in those games.

This season, Jones has not played in the Penguins’ NHL lineup. He has logged three assists in four AHL games with the farm team Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

The other acquisition, 24-year-old Laatsch, has not yet played in the NHL. He has ten AHL games and three assists to his name.

Johnson, 25, heading to Pittsburgh, is Buffalo’s first-round pick from 2019. He has played 47 NHL games with stats of 0+7=7.
