Jarmo Kekäläinen has once again pulled off a huge trade – the star forward is changing scenery!

Buffalo Sabres’ GM Jarmo Kekäläinen continues to shake up the summer trade market. Just a day after his big trade, the Finnish boss sent star forward Alex Tuch to the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals and Tuch agreed to a contract extension worth $84 million as part of the trade. The eight-year deal guarantees the 30-year-old American an average annual salary of $10.5 million.

Tuch has been one of the Sabres’ most important forwards over the last five seasons. In the recently concluded season, the winger scored 66 points with 33 goals and 33 assists in 79 regular-season games.

Kekäläinen hinted earlier on Wednesday that Tuch’s departure was a likely option. The parties failed to reach an agreement on a contract extension, which is why the Sabres decided to trade the forward’s rights before the opening of free agency in July.

This marks the second significant player move from Buffalo within just a day. On the night of Wednesday, Kekäläinen traded defenseman star Bowen Byram to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Meanwhile, in Washington, a star-studded lineup is being rapidly constructed. Tuch was already the second notable forward acquisition for the Capitals within a day, as the team previously acquired star forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.

There is no official information yet on the compensation Washington is paying in Tuch’s trade. The first to report on the move was Elliotte Friedman, one of the most respected insiders in the NHL.
