Jarmo Kekäläinen does not stop in the NHL – a new huge deal was sealed in Buffalo
The Buffalo Sabres have signed 21-year-old winger Zach Benson to a seven-year contract. The deal runs through the 2032–33 season.
Benson’s annual salary in the new contract is $7.5 million. He was set to become a restricted free agent after his third NHL season.
Last season, Benson had the best regular season of his career, collecting 43 points (13+30) in 65 games. In the playoffs, he scored five goals and provided four assists.
Buffalo’s Finnish GM Jarmo Kekäläinen commented on the player on the team’s website.
– I see him as a true core player who meets all the requirements. I can’t praise Benson enough. He has skill, he has hockey sense, he has instincts, he is relentless and competitive.
– He had a great playoff performance, and I am really excited about the level he can still reach. And as he grows into a big and strong man, which we will guide him to become, that will add even more dimensions, Kekäläinen continued.
Kekäläinen made two major player trades just a day earlier, moving star forward Alex Tuch and defenseman Bowen Byram out of the team.
