Buffalo Sabres has signed defender Louis Crevier, 25, to a four-year contract extension.

Crevier’s new contract will begin next year and will be valid until spring 2031. The total value of the contract is 16 million dollars, with an average annual salary of four million dollars. Without the extension, Crevier would have become a restricted free agent after this season.

Buffalo’s Finnish GM Jarmo Kekäläinen acquired Crevier as part of a trade from the Chicago Blackhawks in June. In the other direction, Bowen Byram and Jordan Greenway were traded.

Crevier broke through in the NHL last season. The 203-centimeter defender played 78 regular-season games with Chicago, scoring 7+18=25 points.

Overall, Crevier has played 134 NHL games with the Blackhawks over the past three seasons, with 10+22=32 points.

Crevier is known especially for his physical and defense-oriented play. Last season, Crevier delivered 124 hits and blocked 95 opponent shots.
